We invite you to an online discussion with an international expert on supporting local journalism from North Carolina, Lizzy Hazeltine, who currently serves as the Director of the Local News Lab Fund in North Carolina.
Lizzy Hazeltine is the director of the fund supporting local media in North Carolina. The fund provides assistance to organizations focused on improving conditions for people working in the local media ecosystem. The main task of the fund is to build a resilient and sustainable network of local periodicals. At the same time, it supports the availability and inclusion of local news for the residents of North Carolina. To date, the fund has invested more than $4 million in 37 organizations.
During the discussion, we will discuss why quality local journalism is necessary in today’s world, why and how this area can be supported, what are the consequences of the decline of local journalism, and we will also compare the situation and strength of local media in the USA and Europe.
